Disturbing Voyeurism: Bengaluru Accountant Arrested for Filming Women on Metro

Bengaluru Accountant Arrested for Secretly Filming Women on Metro
A 27-year-old accountant in Bengaluru has been arrested for secretly filming women on the city’s Namma Metro and posting the videos online. The disturbing incident has sparked outrage across the city.
Voyeurism on Public Transport
The accused, identified as Digant, worked in the accounts department of a private firm. He used his daily commute on the metro to secretly film women without their knowledge or consent, zooming in on their faces and torsos. These videos were uploaded to a new Instagram account called ‘metro_chicks,’ which quickly gained over 5,000 followers. The videos were also shared via a Telegram channel.
The Instagram account featured captions like ‘finding beautiful girls on Namma Metro’ accompanied by disturbing background music. Despite comments being disabled, the content was deeply disturbing and raised serious concerns about women’s safety on public transport.
Police Action and Charges
The horrific videos came to light earlier this week, prompting widespread condemnation. The Banashankari police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on May 20.
Digant has been charged under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2008, which deals with the publication or transmission of obscene material electronically, and Section 78(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which pertains to stalking.
Police investigations revealed that Digant had no prior record of such behavior. He allegedly filmed the women during his daily work commute.
