TMC Leader Calls Delhi-Srinagar Flight Turbulence a ‘Near Death Experience’

A recent flight from Delhi to Srinagar took a terrifying turn for passengers, including Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sagarika Ghose, who described the experience as a ‘near death experience’. The Indigo flight encountered severe turbulence due to a sudden hailstorm, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency to air traffic control in Srinagar.

Passengers Panic as Plane Rocks Amidst Storm

Sagarika Ghose, a TMC Rajya Sabha MP and former journalist, recounted the harrowing ordeal in an interview with news agency PTI. She said, ‘It was a near death experience. I thought my life was over. People were screaming, praying and panicking.’ Videos circulating on social media captured the chaos inside the plane as passengers desperately clutched onto their seats and prayed for safety.

Flight Lands Safely After Tense Moments

Despite the terrifying turbulence, the pilot skillfully navigated the aircraft and landed safely at Srinagar airport at 6:30 pm. Ghose revealed that after landing, the delegation thanked the pilot, noting that the nose of the plane had been damaged during the turbulent flight.

TMC Delegation in Kashmir for Solidarity Visit

The TMC delegation, comprising five members, including Derek O’Brien, Nadimul Haque, Manas Bhunia, and Mamata Thakur, was on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir. They aimed to express solidarity with those affected by cross-border attacks and offer condolences to families who lost loved ones.

Indigo Statement:

Indigo Airlines issued a statement confirming the incident, stating that flight 6E 2142 from Delhi to Srinagar encountered a sudden hailstorm. They emphasized that the flight and cabin crew followed established protocols, ensuring a safe landing in Srinagar.
