50 Terrorists Stopped: BSF Foils Pakistan-backed Infiltration Attempt in J&K

BSF Foils Major Terror Infiltration Attempt in J&K
In a major victory for India’s security forces, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a large-scale infiltration attempt by 45 to 50 terrorists along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on May 8. The infiltration attempt, reportedly backed by Pakistan, was carried out under the cover of heavy cross-border shelling.
Heavy Ceasefire Violation and Fierce Retaliation
According to BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) SS Mand, Pakistan initiated a massive ceasefire violation, using heavy artillery fire to support the terrorists’ attempt to cross the border. Speaking to ANI, DIG Mand revealed that the BSF had received intelligence about this large group attempting to infiltrate and were prepared for their arrival.
“We were ready for them and we detected them on 8 May,” DIG Mand stated. “They were a group of 45-50 men… They were advancing to our location… We assessed the situation and since our scenario was war-gamed, we inflicted heavy bombardment on them,” he added.
BSF’s Swift Response and Decisive Action
DIG Mand described how the BSF troops engaged the terrorists with accurate and heavy fire, forcing them to retreat. “As expected, they retaliated with heavy fire from their posts… We opened up with heavy and accurate fire on them. That was a major factor. They were seen running away from their posts. We sorted them out in 1.5 hours,” he explained.
He praised the high morale and dedication of the BSF troops, highlighting the crucial role of women soldiers in this successful operation. “Our women troops stood shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts, carrying out all duties effectively. We are truly proud of them,” DIG Mand said, emphasizing the BSF’s unwavering resolve to protect India’s borders.
Lieutenant Governor Visits Poonch Brigade Headquarters
In a show of solidarity with the troops, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, visited the Poonch Brigade headquarters on Wednesday. He met with Army and BSF personnel stationed in the area, offering his appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
BSF Resumes Beating Retreat Ceremony
Meanwhile, the BSF has resumed the Beating Retreat ceremony at three Joint Check Posts along the Punjab border — Attari-Wagah, Hussainiwala, and Sadqi. The daily flag-lowering event had been suspended on May 9 following the Pahalgam terror attack and the launch of Operation Sindoor.
Background: Operation Sindoor and Escalation
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people. Indian forces targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 terrorists linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Pakistan retaliated by shelling along the Line of Control and border areas in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as launching drone attacks. India countered these attacks by damaging Pakistan’s air defense, radar, and communication systems, and hitting 11 of their airbases.
Following this escalation, a ceasefire understanding was reached on May 10, aiming to halt military action on land, sea, and in the air.
