Rain Alert for Mumbai! Heavy Showers Expected, Check Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and several other districts in Maharashtra, warning of moderate rainfall from May 19 to May 23.
Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Surrounding Areas
The yellow alert is in effect for five days in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Dhule. Other districts in Maharashtra will experience the alert for varying periods, from one to four days. The IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) in these areas.
Orange Alert for Heavier Rain
An orange alert, indicating heavier rainfall, has been issued for certain districts in Konkan, Marathwada, north Maharashtra, and western Maharashtra, including the ghat region. The orange alert for the ghat sections of Pune district will be in place for all five days. Other affected districts will experience the alert for periods ranging from one to four days.
The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) at isolated places under the orange alert.
Pre-Monsoon Showers Across Maharashtra
Parts of Maharashtra have already experienced pre-monsoon showers accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms since last week.
Early Monsoon Arrival Predicted
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in India earlier than usual. The IMD predicts it will reach Kerala in the next four to five days.
This would mark an early arrival, potentially the earliest since 2009, when the monsoon began on May 23.
