Operation Sindoor: Mamata Banerjee Clarifies TMC MP’s Absence

A delegation of 51 Indian lawmakers, including parliamentarians and former ministers, is traveling to various world capitals to promote India’s stance against terrorism as part of ‘Operation Sindoor’. However, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Yusuf Pathan will not be joining the delegation, sparking debate.

TMC Leader Speaks Out

TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee addressed the controversy, asserting that the Centre, or Indian government, did not consult her party before including Yusuf Pathan’s name on the delegation list. She emphasized that the decision to select representatives should come from the party, not the government.

“If they request the mother party, the party will decide the name. This is the custom; this is the system. We are with the Central government regarding external affairs policy, and we are fully supporting them,” Mamata Banerjee told reporters.

Banerjee clarified that their decision is not a boycott but a stand based on established protocol. She pointed out that while the TMC supports the Centre’s foreign policy, they believe in a collaborative approach when it comes to selecting representatives for such delegations.

TMC MP’s Absence

According to sources, Yusuf Pathan, a former cricketer turned politician, informed the government that he would not be available to participate. While some reports indicate that the government reached out to Pathan directly, the TMC maintains that they were not consulted.

Another TMC MP, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, declined participation citing health concerns.

Operation Sindoor: A Multi-Party Effort

Operation Sindoor is a multi-party initiative by the Indian government to counter global misinformation and promote India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. The delegations will be visiting over 30 countries.
