Virat Kohli’s Frustration: RCB Team Song Silenced During Practice

Kohli Returns to Action After Test Retirement
The Indian Premier League 2023 is back in action, and all eyes are on Virat Kohli as he returns to competitive cricket after calling time on his Test career. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star was spotted practicing with his team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, even hitting some impressive shots.
A Team Song Too Much?
However, it seems even the most legendary players need their space. According to reports, Kohli got annoyed when the RCB team song started blaring during his practice session. The music was reportedly shut down to restore silence for the star batter.
Cricbuzz Details the Incident
Cricbuzz reported: “Nearly an hour and a half into RCB’s training session at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Friday, Virat Kohli joined the batting group for a hit. A couple of crisp straight drives and pull shots later, there was a brief break in play. He wasn’t happy. His arrival to the practice pitch, even in an empty stadium, coincided with the sound system blaring the RCB team song. He conveyed his annoyance to enough people around him to shut it down and restore silence, interspersed with the sound of the ball hitting the bat and the ambient conversations.”
An Emotional Farewell to Tests
Kohli’s Test retirement was a shock to the cricketing world. The player, known for his passion for the longest format, had announced his decision to step away from the game in a surprising move. He had previously retired from T20 internationals in June 2022 after India’s T20 World Cup triumph.
Rain Threatens Saturday’s Match
The upcoming match between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday is facing a potential weather threat. AccuWeather predicts thunderstorms in Bengaluru from 5 pm onwards, coinciding with the scheduled toss time.
Playoff Implications
The rain could have a significant impact on KKR’s playoff hopes. Currently, the three-time champions need to secure a win or a tie to keep their chances alive. A washed-out game would leave them with a maximum of 14 points, which might not be enough to secure a place in the playoffs. On the other hand, RCB’s position is more comfortable, even if the match is abandoned.
