The trial of hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently underway in a Manhattan federal court. The spotlight is on Cassie Ventura, Combs’ former girlfriend and a key witness for the prosecution, who is back on the witness stand today after a three-day direct examination.

Combs, 55, is facing serious charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation for prostitution. The prosecution alleges that for decades, Combs used force, threats, and coercion to pressure women into participating in what they call “freak offs” – marathon sexual encounters. They also claim that he used his vast business empire, along with weapons, kidnapping, and arson, to cover up his alleged crimes.

Defense’s Strategy

Yesterday, Combs’ defense team presented hundreds of text messages between Ventura and Combs from throughout their relationship. They hope to demonstrate that Ventura willingly participated in the “freak offs” and even sometimes initiated them.

Ventura’s Testimony

Ventura, during her direct questioning, painted a disturbing picture of her decade-long relationship with Combs. She described it as frequently marked by violence and physical abuse. She detailed the drug-fueled “freak offs” which she said would leave her physically and emotionally drained for days. The court was also shown a 2016 surveillance video that appears to show Combs physically assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel.

High Stakes

Combs has denied all charges. If convicted, he could face life in prison. He is currently being held without bail in a Brooklyn jail. A jury of 12 New Yorkers and six alternates will be responsible for deciding his fate. The trial is expected to last at least eight weeks.
