A Farewell Tribute to Justice Bela Trivedi

The courtroom was filled with a palpable sense of respect and admiration as lawyers gathered to bid farewell to retiring Supreme Court Justice Bela Trivedi. Senior advocates and legal luminaries alike lauded Justice Trivedi for her unwavering commitment to justice, her courage in standing by her convictions, and her pioneering role in paving the way for women in the legal profession.

An Inspiration for Women in Law

Senior Advocate Rachana Srivastava emphasized Justice Trivedi’s inspiring impact on women lawyers, stating, “You stood by what you thought was correct. Though you have been strict but when we requested you did accede. Presence of so many ladies show that you are an inspiration for us. Please continue to inspire us.”

Senior Advocate Pinky Anand highlighted the significance of Justice Trivedi’s presence on the Bench, observing that she had shifted the narrative from a male-dominated court to one that embraces equality. “The narrative that your ladyship has done for the Court, and for the ladies, in general … this section appreciates the narrative change that your ladyship has done – from ‘man to woman’ to ‘man with woman’ – that we think, is looking forward,” she remarked.

A Judge of Principle and Integrity

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Archana Pathak Dave praised Justice Trivedi’s dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to the first principles of justice. “There is no male or woman judge when you sit there. That showed when you held on to the first principles. Thank you for being there, for inspiring us and we all wish you a very, happy, healthy life ahead,” she said.

Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora lauded Justice Trivedi for her courage in upholding her convictions, stating, “There is nothing like a male judge or female judge in this Court. We do not come here to take advantage because we are women; we come as equals. You established that, that there is no distinction here, we come here for our merits, treated at par with all our colleagues.”

A Legacy of Fairness and Fearlessness

Several other senior advocates, including Vibha Datta Makhija, V Mohana, Mahalakshmi Pavani, and ASG Aishwarya Bhati, joined in expressing their gratitude for Justice Trivedi’s contributions to the judiciary. They praised her fairness, fearlessness, and unwavering integrity in upholding the law.

Justice Bela Trivedi’s retirement marks the end of an era, but her legacy of courage, fairness, and equality will continue to inspire generations of lawyers to come.
