Singtel Sheds Stake in Bharti Airtel

Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) has confirmed the sale of a significant stake in Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel, raking in over ₹13,000 crore in the process. On Friday, May 16, Singtel announced the sale of 7.1 crore shares, representing a 1.2% stake in Bharti Airtel, through block deals.

Transaction Details

The shares were sold at ₹1,814 each, totaling $1.54 billion. This move has reduced Singtel’s overall ownership in Bharti Airtel to 28.3% from the previous 29.5%. While the buyers in this transaction remain undisclosed, Singtel’s unit, Pastel, is believed to be behind the sale, according to a term sheet accessed by CNBC-TV18.

Discount and Lock-up Period

The block deal’s floor price was set at ₹1,800 per share, marking a 3.6% discount to Bharti Airtel’s closing price on Thursday. The final transaction price exceeded this floor price. Additionally, a 60-day lock-up period has been implemented, preventing the immediate resale of the shares.

Impact on Bharti Airtel Stock

Following the transaction, shares of Bharti Airtel experienced a slight dip, falling 2.6% to ₹1,818. Despite this, the stock had recently touched an all-time high of ₹1,917 on Thursday. Bharti Airtel’s stock has performed exceptionally well in 2025, rising 17% year-to-date and ranking among the top performers on the Nifty 50 index.
