Ten militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with an Assam Rifles unit in Manipur’s Chandel district on Wednesday, according to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command. The operation, which is still ongoing, began after specific intelligence was received about the movement of armed groups near New Samtal village.

The Army’s Eastern Command shared details of the operation on X, stating that an Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps launched the operation on May 14, 2025. As troops approached the suspected militant presence, they came under fire. The Assam Rifles troops responded swiftly, redeploying and engaging in a measured firefight.
The intense exchange of gunfire resulted in the neutralization of ten militants. A substantial amount of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the scene.
