MG Windsor EV Pro Review: Does It Really Deliver on Range?

MG Windsor EV Pro: A Range-Topping Electric MPV?
We recently got behind the wheel of the MG Windsor EV Pro, the range-topping variant of this popular electric MPV, to see if its claimed range of 449 kilometers holds up in the real world.
The Drive: Hills, Serenity, and a Range Test
Our journey took us from the bustling city of Guwahati to the picturesque Umiam Lake in Shillong, covering a distance of around 200 kilometers. The drive was a mix of city streets, winding hills, and scenic landscapes.
Under the Hood: Battery and Performance
The Pro variant boasts a larger 52.9 kWh battery pack compared to the standard model, promising significantly extended range. However, this larger battery also means it takes longer to charge, requiring about 9.5 hours using a 7.4 kW AC wall box charger.
One notable addition is the vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology, allowing the Windsor EV Pro to power external gadgets or even charge other EVs.
Performance-wise, the Pro variant retains the same 136 horsepower and 200 Nm single motor setup as the standard model. While acceleration is gradual, the motor’s response is predictable.
Aesthetics and Comfort
The Pro variant features subtle cosmetic updates, including three exclusive new colorways and larger 18-inch wheels, giving it a sportier look.
Inside, the Pro variant retains the luxurious features of the standard model, such as the panoramic sunroof, massive touchscreen, digital driver’s display, wireless charging, and quilted seats.
Safety and Technology
The Pro variant upgrades to a Level-2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), enhancing safety features.
Real-World Range: A Realistic Look
After our 200-kilometer test drive, which included a mix of city driving, highway cruising, and hilly terrain, we achieved an energy consumption of 6.6 km/kWh. This translates to a real-world range of approximately 360 kilometers for the 52.9 kWh battery pack.
Price and Verdict
The MG Windsor EV Pro comes with a price premium of Rs 1.5 lakh over the top-end standard variant, justifying the added features and range. Priced at Rs 17.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the Windsor EV Pro also offers a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, starting at Rs 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom) with a subscription charge of Rs 4.5 per kilometer.
Overall, the MG Windsor EV Pro presents itself as a sensible and comfortable electric MPV, offering a good value proposition for buyers seeking a long-range and feature-packed electric vehicle.
