BJP Minister in Hot Water: MP High Court Orders FIR for Insulting Colonel Sofiya Qureshi

MP High Court Takes Action Against BJP Minister for Derogatory Remarks
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken a strong stance against BJP leader and State Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, ordering the registration of an FIR against him for his controversial comments about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The court deemed his remarks as ‘disparaging,’ ‘dangerous,’ and ‘language of the gutters,’ targeting not only the officer personally but also denigrating the armed forces as a whole.
Court Condemns Shah’s Language and Actions
In its order, the court stated, “The armed forces, perhaps the last institution existing in this country, reflecting integrity, industry, discipline, sacrifice, selflessness, character, honour and indomitable courage… has been targeted by Mr. Vijay Shah who has used the language of the gutters against Col. Sofia Quraishi.”
Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla, the division bench presiding over the case, noted that Shah’s statement, which referred to Colonel Qureshi as the “sister of terrorists,” was a clear innuendo that could incite separatist feelings and endanger the sovereignty and unity of India.
Multiple Sections of the BNS Triggered
The court found that Shah’s remarks prima facie violated several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
