Will AI Steal Our Jobs? Experts Weigh In on the Rise of Robots
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the world, and that includes the job market. While some experts believe AI will create more jobs than it eliminates, others warn that it could lead to mass unemployment.
So, what’s the truth? On Saturday, The Hindu hosted a webinar titled ‘The Bitter Truth About Job Losses Caused by AI’ to explore this complex issue. Tech experts from companies like Tata Consultancy Services, TROOP, and emerging technology consulting firms shared their insights.
One key takeaway? AI is already making a big impact in many industries, especially those involved in digital services, manufacturing, and technology. It’s helping businesses work faster and more efficiently, but that also means some jobs could be lost.
One panellist, Alosies George, Senior Engineering Manager at TROOP, noted that AI is getting better at tasks like translation, sentiment analysis, and natural language processing. This means it could eventually take over some jobs currently done by humans.
However, other experts, like Sidharth Sivasailam from Tata Consultancy Services, pointed out that AI is not yet capable of replacing humans entirely. While it can help with tasks like coding, it still needs human guidance and intervention.
The consensus seems to be that AI is more of a tool than a threat. It can help us do our jobs better and faster, but it won’t eliminate the need for human workers altogether.
The real challenge is making sure people have the skills they need to thrive in this changing world. That means focusing on areas where humans excel, like creativity, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.
The experts agreed that reskilling and upskilling will be crucial for workers to adapt to the changing job market. Governments and businesses need to invest in programs that help people develop the skills they need to succeed in the age of AI.
