India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate

India and Pakistan are locked in a tense standoff after a series of military actions between the two countries. Hours after India accused Pakistan of moving troops towards the border, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting at his residence.

PM Modi Reviews India’s Preparedness

The meeting, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the three armed forces, focused on India’s readiness to respond to any further aggression. The Prime Minister was briefed on India’s successful counteractions against Pakistan’s previous military provocations, which included drone and missile attacks, as well as fighter jet incursions.

India Responds to Pakistan’s Attacks

India retaliated to Pakistan’s actions by targeting military installations in Pakistan, including bases in Rahimyar Khan, Murid in Chakwal, Rafiqui in Jhang, and Sialkot. These strikes came after the first civilian casualties were reported in the escalating conflict.

Global Powers Seek De-escalation

As tensions rise, the international community is scrambling to de-escalate the situation. The United States has intensified its efforts, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaking to both Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

US Calls for Calm and Communication

Rubio urged both sides to exercise restraint, avoid miscalculation, and re-establish direct communication channels. He also offered US support in facilitating talks to prevent future disputes. The US State Department emphasized the need for both India and Pakistan to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish communication.

China and Saudi Arabia Join the Call for Peace

China has strongly urged India and Pakistan to exercise calm and restraint, return to peaceful negotiations, and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions. Saudi Arabia has also expressed its commitment to de-escalating the situation.
