A young Indian Army jawan from Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district has been killed in a tragic incident of cross-border firing by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC).

A Brave Soul Lost

Murali Naik, a 27-year-old from the Kalli Thanda hamlet of Puttagundlapalle village, was martyred during the intense firing on the night of Thursday, May 8, 2025. Naik, son of Sri Ram Naik, hailed from a humble agricultural family in the tribal hamlet. He was stationed along the tense LoC in Jammu & Kashmir when the Pakistani Army launched heavy artillery and mortar attacks following India’s Operation Sindoor.

Despite desperate efforts to airlift Naik to New Delhi for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through his community and the nation.

A Community in Mourning

Grief has engulfed the impoverished tribal community in Kalli Thanda and surrounding hamlets. Murali Naik was the only son of Mudavath Sriram Naik and Mudavath Jyothi Bai, both hardworking agricultural laborers. Locals from across the district rushed to Kalli Thanda to offer their condolences to the bereaved family.

A police officer who visited Naik’s hamlet expressed his condolences, saying, “We salute Murali Naik’s bravery and dedication. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Government Response

The entire police administration is currently focused on preparations for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to the Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday. The Chief Minister is expected to announce an ex gratia payment to the grieving family.

Murali Naik’s mortal remains are scheduled to return to his hamlet on Saturday, May 10, morning for his final rites.
