Pakistan Drone Attacks Repulsed by Indian Army
Border Tensions Escalate
The Indian Army announced on Friday, May 9, 2025, that it had successfully repelled multiple attacks launched by Pakistani forces using drones and other munitions along the western border in the night between May 8-9. The Army also reported numerous ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Blackout and Drone Spotting
As tensions escalated, several districts in Punjab, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Rupnagar, Fazilka, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, along with the Union Territory of Chandigarh, experienced a blackout on Thursday night, May 8, 2025. In Jalandhar, security forces successfully neutralized several drones spotted around 11:20 p.m., according to official sources.
Schools and Universities Closed
In response to the evolving situation, the Punjab government announced the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities – both government, private, and aided – across the state for the next three days. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains made the announcement on Thursday night, May 8, 2025.
Jammu and Kashmir Measures
The Jammu and Kashmir government also took precautionary measures, closing all educational institutions in the Union Territory for the next two days. Senior officers have been placed in charge of border districts to enhance communication and preparedness in case of any further incidents.
