Tensions Flare on India-Pakistan Border After Pahalgam Attack

Things are heating up between India and Pakistan after a deadly attack in the Indian-administered Kashmir region. On Friday, the Pakistan Army opened fire on some points along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between the two countries. The Indian Army responded immediately, firing back.
Thankfully, there are no reports of casualties so far. This incident comes just days after a horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot in Kashmir, where at least 26 people were killed. The attack, claimed by a little-known militant group called “The Resistance Front,” is considered one of the deadliest on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Adding to the tension, India’s Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, is heading to Srinagar and Udhampur in Kashmir to assess the security situation and Pakistan’s attempts to violate the ceasefire along the LoC. He’ll be meeting with senior Army commanders and officials from other security agencies.
Things are even more complicated because Pakistan recently announced a planned missile test off its Karachi coast. India is keeping a close eye on this development.
This recent escalation comes after India took strong action against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani military attaches, and shutting down the Attari land-transit post. Pakistan has rejected India’s moves, warning that any interference with the water flow would be considered an “act of war.”
