Operation Sindoor Triggers Flight Cancellations in Hyderabad

The repercussions of India’s early morning military strikes, codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor,’ against Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, are being felt across the country, including in Hyderabad.

The strikes led to the temporary closure of several airports in northern India, causing widespread disruptions to air travel nationwide. Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) was also affected, with several flights to and from the city being cancelled.

IndiGo Cancels 16 Flights, Air India Express Cancels Two

IndiGo, one of India’s largest airlines, cancelled 16 flights to and from Hyderabad—eight arrivals and eight departures— according to an RGIA official. Air India Express also cancelled two flights: one arrival and one departure.

Airspace Restrictions Cause Widespread Disruptions

IndiGo issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) explaining that flights to and from key northern cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Gwalior, were impacted due to changing airspace conditions. Passengers were advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Air India announced the cancellation of all flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot until 12 noon on May 7, pending further updates from authorities. The airline also disclosed that two international flights bound for Amritsar were diverted to Delhi.

Air India Express confirmed on X that multiple flights across its network were affected due to the prevailing restrictions.
