Operation Sindoor Creates Havoc in Indian Air Travel
Due to the escalating tension following Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory airstrike by India against suspected terrorist camps in Pakistan, several major airports across North India have been temporarily shut down. The airspace situation remains tense, leading to widespread flight disruptions.
Air India Halts Flights, Reroutes International Services
Air India has suspended all flights to and from key cities like Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot until noon on May 7th. This decision comes as a precautionary measure pending further instructions from authorities. Two international flights scheduled to land in Amritsar have also been rerouted to Delhi.
IndiGo, SpiceJet Follow Suit
Other major airlines, including IndiGo and SpiceJet, have also announced the closure of several airports in Northern India. These include Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar. Both airlines have warned passengers about potential flight disruptions, urging them to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport.
International Flights Affected
The impact of Operation Sindoor extends beyond Indian borders. Qatar Airways has temporarily suspended all flights to Pakistan due to the closure of its airspace. The airline assures passengers that it is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to their safety.
Operation Sindoor: A Response to the Pahalgam Terror Attack
Operation Sindoor follows the recent Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 innocent lives were lost. Two weeks after the incident, India launched airstrikes targeting three terrorist camps in Mudrike (LeT headquarters), Bahawalpur, the headquarters of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group, and parts of PoK. The operation has garnered international attention, with US President Donald Trump expressing hope for a swift resolution.
Heightened Security in India
As tensions rise, Indian security forces have been placed on high alert. Defence officials confirmed that all air defence units have been activated along the India-Pakistan border, prepared to counter any eventuality.
