Away from the thrilling action on the field, an IPL 2025 match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took a dramatic turn when two families engaged in a heated altercation in the exclusive Diamond Box at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Clash of the Titans

According to reports, the families, allegedly belonging to high-ranking government officials, got into a full-blown fight over seating arrangements. Things escalated so quickly that both families ended up filing police complaints against each other.

Reports suggest that one family included a senior IPS officer, while the other was connected to an income tax commissioner.

A Seat Sparked the Fury

The incident reportedly started with a simple misunderstanding. The IPS officer’s daughter stepped away to use the restroom, leaving her purse on the seat to mark her spot. When a man from the tax commissioner’s family took the seat, the daughter’s brother objected. This led to a heated argument that quickly involved both families.

“The daughter stepped away to use the washroom, leaving her purse on the seat to indicate it was occupied. That is when a man came and occupied her seat. When the brother told him to vacate as his sister was all set to return, the man did not budge and an argument broke out between the two. Soon, the sister joined her brother while the man was joined by his wife, the income tax official, and their son. The argument intensified with each hurling abuse at the other. At one point, the confrontation between the IPS officer’s daughter and the man almost went out of control as the man was arguing in her face,” a police officer told Times of India.

High-Stakes Standoff

The situation reportedly became even more tense as several senior government officials witnessed the brawl from nearby seats but chose not to intervene. The IPS officer and his wife, who were at home, rushed to the stadium upon being informed about the incident by their children.

The IPS officer’s wife contacted the police for help, but with no immediate assistance, she instructed her children to file a complaint at the Cubbon Park police station, located just minutes away from the stadium.

Police Action

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against two unidentified individuals under sections 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 75 (sexual harassment which includes physical contact involving unwelcome overtures), and 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty). The accused and his wife were summoned to the police station but were later allowed to go, with the police stating that further action would be taken after an investigation.
