India Responds Strongly to Pahalgam Terror Attack

India Takes Tough Action After Pahalgam Attack
India has decided to take some serious steps after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The government held a meeting to discuss the situation and decided on several actions, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, which deals with sharing water between India and Pakistan. They also shut down the Attari border crossing immediately.
The Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, spoke to the media last night and outlined the new measures. He said that Pakistani citizens won’t be able to come to India using the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) anymore. Any SVES visas that Pakistani nationals already had have been canceled. Pakistani people currently in India on an SVES visa have 48 hours to leave the country.
India also declared the defense, military, naval, and air advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as “Persona Non Grata.” This means they have to leave India within a week. India will be doing the same thing to its own advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in Islamabad. In addition, India will be reducing the number of staff at both high commissions from 55 to 30 by May 1st.
The Foreign Secretary said that the meeting, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussed the details of the terror attack, which happened on Tuesday. The meeting also highlighted the attack’s connection to Pakistan and how it happened after the successful elections in Jammu and Kashmir and its progress towards economic growth. The government strongly condemned the attack and expressed its condolences to the victims’ families and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.
India has received a lot of support and solidarity from other countries around the world who have condemned the attack and shown that they won’t tolerate terrorism.
