India Suspends Indus Waters Treaty After Deadly Attack

India took swift action in response to the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. The government announced on Thursday that it was suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, citing Pakistan’s violation of the agreement. This move comes as a serious escalation in the tensions between the two countries.

Rahul Gandhi Meets Omar Abdullah

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Opposition in India’s parliament, traveled to Srinagar to express his condolences and support for the victims of the attack. He visited injured tourists at an army hospital and then met with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss the situation and its impact on tourism.

Delhi Businesses Shut Down in Protest

The outrage over the Pahalgam attack resonated across India. On Friday, over 900 markets in Delhi, including popular shopping areas like Connaught Place, Sadar Bazar, and Chandni Chowk, closed their doors in a ‘Delhi Bandh’ protest. Various merchant associations from different sectors, including textiles, spices, utensils, and bullion, joined the shutdown to show their solidarity with the victims and demand action against terrorism.
