Pahalgam Attack Probe Widens

The investigation into the horrifying Pahalgam attack, which shook India and drew global condemnation, is widening. Officials are focusing on identifying those who might have aided the Pakistani terrorists responsible for the massacre.

According to sources, over 2,000 suspected local collaborators, known as ‘over-ground workers’, have been questioned. Fifteen individuals are now under close scrutiny after intensive questioning.

Who Are the Perpetrators?

Authorities believe the attack was carried out by two Pakistani terrorists, Hashim Musa (alias Suleimani) and Talha Bhai, along with a local man named Adil Thokar. There are also suspicions about the involvement of another Pakistani terrorist.

Evidence suggests the group had carefully planned the attack, scouting Pahalgam hotels in early April. They chose April 22nd, a day when the picturesque Baisaran Valley was crowded with holidaymakers after a spell of bad weather.

The Gruesome Details

The terrorists ambushed the tourists in Baisaran Valley. They forced them to recite the Islamic declaration of faith, the Kalima, and made them pull down their trousers to determine their religion. They then shot dead Hindu men at close range. A local pony operator who tried to intervene was also killed.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the nation. Horrific videos from the scene have emerged, and investigators are interviewing witnesses, meticulously gathering clues, and piecing together the events. A massive search operation is underway in Jammu and Kashmir, along with a crackdown on properties linked to terrorists.

The Resistance Front and International Fallout

The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot with a history of violence, initially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, they later retracted their statement amidst widespread protests, including from Kashmiris themselves.

India has vowed a strong response, holding Pakistan accountable for the attack. This has included diplomatic pressure on Pakistan and the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a key agreement concerning water sharing between the two countries.

Farooq Teedwa: A Key Suspect

A key suspect in the case, Farooq Teedwa, is believed to be operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is leading the probe, is focusing on Teedwa’s role in facilitating the entry of the Pakistani terrorists.

Intelligence reports suggest Teedwa has been in Pakistan since 1996, maintaining contact with his network of over-ground workers in Kashmir. He is suspected of having activated this network to aid Pakistani terrorists in previous attacks as well.

Authorities are now determined to bring all those involved in this heinous act to justice.
