Indian Diaspora Counters Pakistani Protest in London Over Pahalgam Attack

Indian Community Rallies Against Pakistan in London

There was a tense showdown outside the Indian High Commission in London on Sunday as members of the Indian community and diaspora gathered to counter a Pakistani protest. The Pakistani demonstration, which took place across the street, was organized in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, India, and accused India of spreading propaganda.

The Indian demonstrators, waving the Indian flag and chanting patriotic slogans like ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram,’ outnumbered their Pakistani counterparts. A strong police presence was necessary to keep the two groups separated, as tensions ran high.

Remembering the Victims

Later that evening, British Indian groups held a candlelight vigil at Piccadilly Circus to honor the 26 victims of the Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22nd.

Protests Across the UK

Similar protests and vigils against Pakistan’s alleged support for terror groups, under the banner of “All Eyes on Pahalgam,” have been organized by Indian diaspora groups in various cities across the UK, including Manchester, Edinburgh, and Belfast.

“The aim is to present a united front against terrorism,” said Insight UK, a community group involved in the demonstrations.

Previous Confrontation

This latest incident follows a protest by Indian diaspora organizations outside the Pakistan High Commission in London on Friday. This earlier demonstration also sparked a counter-protest by British Pakistanis, who were supported by Pakistani mission officials. A video circulating on social media showed a Pakistani official making a threatening gesture toward the Indian protesters.
