Things are getting tense between India and Pakistan after a recent terror attack in the Indian-administered Kashmir region. In a show of force, the Indian Navy just conducted some successful missile drills in the Arabian Sea. They launched BrahMos missiles from warships, including destroyers and frigates, proving they can strike targets far away with precision.

The Navy shared videos of the drills online, making it clear they’re ready to defend India’s interests. This comes after Pakistan said they’d be conducting their own missile exercises in the same area, raising worries about things escalating further.

The attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd killed 26 people, one of the deadliest in Kashmir since India revoked Article 370, which gave the region special status.

India’s responded strongly, deporting Pakistani citizens and suspending the Indus Water Treaty, which controls the sharing of water from rivers that flow through both countries. Pakistan, in turn, has suspended all bilateral agreements with India.

The situation along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between India and Pakistan, has also become more volatile, with frequent ceasefire violations. India says they’ve responded effectively, but thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the attack on his monthly radio show, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ saying, “Every Indian’s blood is boiling after the terror attack. Each one of them is feeling the pain of those who lost their own.” He added, “Peace was returning to Kashmir, but the enemies of the country, of Jammu and Kashmir, did not like this.”

Adding to the display of strength, the Indian Navy warship INS Surat recently successfully tested its Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system against a sea-skimming target. The INS Surat is a cutting-edge warship, built mostly with Indian components, and is equipped with some of the most advanced weapons and sensors in the world.
