Social Activist Shot Dead in Kashmir, Amidst Heightened Security

A 45-year-old social activist, Ghulam Rasool Magray, was tragically killed in a shooting by suspected terrorists in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, late Saturday night.
Magray was attacked inside his home in the Kandi Khas area. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly passed away before receiving treatment. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind this horrific act.
This incident comes at a time when security is already on high alert across the Kashmir Valley. The heightened security is a direct response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd. In that attack, 26 people were killed when terrorists opened fire on tourists at a popular meadow.
The Pahalgam attack is considered one of the deadliest terror strikes in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel. It also stands out as a major attack since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Security forces are continuing to maintain a heightened state of alert in the Valley.
